"Be Prepared To Be Surprised"
Today is one of those Sundays where I take issue with the folks who put together the lectionary. Our gospel lesson begins with a continuance of last week’s lesson on the issues of possessions and providence and generosity, and then switches tone to an apocalyptic lesson on being ready for the return of the master. Last week we heard the parable of the rich fool, that rich farmer who fell victim to greed. The lectionary then skips over a large section where Jesus tells his disciples “Don’t worry. Don’t worry about your life, your food, your clothing. .....
